MacuHealth Expands Its Commitment to Optometry Students

Over the last two years, optometry students missed out on much of the learning experiences required for their field due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many were unable to take advantage of any in-person time with their teachers or patients, which could lead to a lack of understanding of the latest research or the ability to gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment to give their patients the best treatment possible.

MacuHealth knows that these aspects of optometric education are vital for success in the field. The innovative eye supplement company continued to show its support of students and optometry schools during this challenging time with a sizeable donation to the Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. The contribution came in the form of student tuition assistance, mobile eye testing equipment, and other laboratory upgrades.

Frederic Jouhet, the founder and CEO of MacuHealth, showed humility when discussing the company’s support, stating that the motivation behind this generous gift had nothing to do with business. "You do it because it's the right thing to do," he stated. “We need to provide optometry students with the best technology possible to enhance the eyesight of future generations.”

The Michigan-based firm’s commitment to education extends to its customers as well. It relaunched its Learning Center to build awareness around age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and its symptoms. AMD is the leading cause of vision loss in older adults, affecting 48 million people, with that number expected to almost double by 2050. Yet few people know the symptoms of the progressive eye disease.

Not only does the Learning Center include the latest news about its products, but it also features educational articles about the disease, information about the eye, and advice from Dr. Jim Stringham, the company's Chief Scientific Officer. There’s a wealth of information on eye nutrition for students and caregivers. Visit macuhealth.com/learning-center to check it out for yourself and come back regularly as, throughout the year, there will be more content added.
