ASCO Clinical Affairs Committee Announces Spring Online Clinical Educators Forum (OCEF)
The OCEF Program Planning Group of the Academic Affairs Committee (AAFC), co-chaired by Dr. Amy Roan Moy (NECO) and Dr. Valerie Kattouf (ICO), has been hard at work programming the second installment of the two-part series “Engaging Today’s Student.” This OCEF will focus on ‘the clinic’ setting; the fall 2022 OCEF focused on the classroom and can be viewed here. A tentative date of Friday, June 2, 2023 at 12:30 ET has been set.
The goal of the series is to elevate the teaching methods of the optometric educator in the clinic and classroom and to successfully engage the modern student in meaningful learning. The program is shaping up to include individual presenters who will address Gen Z engagement and effective teaching strategies in the clinic, as well as a ‘grand rounds’ type panel session featuring clinicians from ASCO institutions who will respond to case scenarios with their ideas for communicating effectively in difficult situations. A sneak peak of the soon-to-be-released “Clinical Preceptor Toolkit,” developed by a subcommittee of the AAFC, also will be featured.
As the program is finalized, OCEF liaisons at the schools and colleges will be notified.
