Dr. Richard Hill, Dean Emeritus of The Ohio State University, College of Optometry Passes Away
It is with deep sadness to report that Dr. Richard Hill, Dean Emeritus of The Ohio State College of Optometry passed away on Tuesday, June 20 at home under hospice care due to Parkinson’s disease.
Lee Hill, Dr. Hill’s wife, shared, “With the help of Zoom, he was able to enjoy the Hill Lecture by Frank Schaeffel on March 21, 2023. He enjoyed each year’s lecture and took pride in having set it up as his legacy to Optometry for its renewal and furtherance in future endeavors. As his wife for 65 years, from his last year in Optometry school, through his PhD, and all the research and the rewards ensuing, I can attest to his love of Optometry. I’ve always known he had no regrets in his career choice — Optometry was always good to him. The lecture series he endowed was his gift back.”
According to his obituary, no services will be held, per his request. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Richard and Leonora Hill Endowed Lecture Series on Frontiers in Vision Research (Fund 603197), c/o The Ohio State University Foundation, University Square North, 14 E. 15th Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43201.
ASCO extends its sincere condolences to Dr. Hill’s family, friends, and loved ones.
