Empowering Equity Scholarship Awardee
This summer, 4th Year Doctor of Optometry student, Mihret Girum, was awarded the inaugural Empowering Equity Scholarship, an award through a partnership between VSP Vision and Black EyeCare Perspective. “VSP Vision and Black Eyecare Perspective united in their efforts to support the 13% Promise, the mission to improve and increase representation of Blacks and African-Americans in the optometric industry to align more closely with the United States Census population.” – VSP
The collaborative effort empowered them to create a scholarship of $15,000 per recipient, for which recipients submitted a “Public Awareness” video highlighting the importance of eyecare in underrepresented communities.
