Join the Conversation about Mental Health this Healthy Vision Month in May

This year, the National Eye Institute (NEI) is shining a light on the connection between vision loss and mental health. The theme for 2024 is Reframe Your Future, highlighting steps people with a visual impairment can take to live well with vision loss.

Check out all NEI’s Healthy Vision Month resources.

We’re excited about being part of this important conversation, and we hope you are, too! Here are a few ideas for getting involved:

  • Learn about vision rehabilitation. These services — including training, tools, and technology — can help anyone with a visual impairment thrive in their daily lives. Explore NEI’s information on vision rehabilitation services.
  • Encourage people with a visual impairment to reframe their future. Living with vision loss can be isolating — but hearing stories from others who have overcome similar obstacles can help. NEI and Christine Ha teamed up to share her story of success after vision loss. Check out and share the videos.
  • Fight the loneliness epidemic. People across the United States are feeling lonely and disconnected. So NEI and the U.S. Surgeon General are partnering to promote the 5-for-5 Connection Challenge to help everyone build and strengthen relationships — and inspire others to add connection to their daily lives. Learn about the challenge.

Thank you in advance for your support! Together, we can help people with a visual impairment access important vision rehabilitation services, mental health support, and social connection.
