Apply to Become a Test Constructor for Admissions and Licensure Examinations!

Volunteer Test Constructor Application Now Open

On behalf of the governing bodies that it serves, the American Dental Association’s Department of Testing Services (DTS) is seeking volunteers interested in serving as test constructors charged with developing content in support of admissions and licensure examinations. Test constructors can make a significant contribution to public health by developing questions for these important examinations.
The application cycle is now open, and volunteers are encouraged to apply.

Volunteers are needed for the following examination programs:

Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO)

  • Optometry Admission Test (OAT)

Council on Dental Education and Licensure (CDEL)

  • Advanced Dental Admission Test (ADAT)
  • Admission Test for Dental Hygiene (ATDH)
  • Dental Admission Test (DAT)

Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE)

  • Dental Hygiene Licensure Objective Structured Clinical Examination (DHLOSCE)
  • Dental Licensure Objective Structured Clinical Examination (DLOSCE)
  • Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE)
  • National Board Dental Hygiene Examination (NBDHE)
  • Fairness and Sensitivity Reviewers

Continuing education credits and per-day honorarium may be available. To apply for multiple examination programs, you will need to complete the application for each examination.

The application deadline to serve as a volunteer test constructor is January 31, 2025. Learn more about becoming a test constructor, review FAQs, and submit your application by visiting the ADA’s Test Constructor webpage.

If you have any questions, please contact Sara Green, Manager, DTS Volunteers and Meetings, at greens@ada.org.
