Ophthalmologist Dr. Robert Fintelmann Joins the AZCOPT Faculty
Midwestern University and the Arizona College of Optometry are excited to announce that Dr. Robert Fintelmann, MD has joined the AZCOPT faculty as a full-time Associate Professor. He is currently the first and only ophthalmologist on staff at AZCOPT. As he joins the AZCOPT team, Dr. Fintelmann brings with him many years of experience and accomplishments in the area of corneal and refractive surgery. After completing his doctorate at the University of Ulm in Germany, he traveled to the U.S. for his ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia, PA. He then completed a Corneal and Refractive Surgery Fellowship at the Francis I. Proctor Foundation at the University of California San Francisco before moving to Phoenix, AZ.
Dr. Fintelmann has performed thousands of cataract surgeries, over 2,000 vision correction procedures (including LASIK, PRK, and ICL), and hundreds of corneal transplants. Having Dr. Fintelmann as part of the AZCOPT team allows tremendous opportunities for both the optometry students and patients of the clinic. Students will be able to learn from Dr. Fintelmann in a classroom setting, where he will lecture on anterior segment pathologies and surgical procedures, as well as in a clinical setting. Third- and fourth-year students will now have the amazing opportunity to treat and manage complicated ocular diseases and perform pre- and post-operative surgical care alongside Dr. Fintelmann.
