Bausch + Lomb Expands Portfolio, Initiates New Clinical Studies and More
As part of Bausch + Lomb’s commitment to supporting eye care professionals and the patients they serve, the company has continued to build upon its pipeline and deliver new eye health innovations over the past few months.
This includes a 2.75 cylinder parameter offering for Biotrue® ONEday for Astigmatism daily disposable contact lenses, the first and only toric daily disposable with a -2.75 cylinder. This parameter offering is available for same day fitting in a standard fit set and will offer eye care professionals and their astigmatic patients the most toric parameters of any daily disposable lens.1
In its Pharmaceuticals division, Bausch + Lomb initiated the second of two Phase 3 studies evaluating the investigational treatment NOV03 (perfluorohexyloctane) as a first-in-class investigational drug with a novel mechanism of action intended to treat the signs and symptoms of Dry Eye Disease (DED) associated with Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). Enrollment of the first Phase 3 study is currently underway and has reached 85% of its enrollment goal.
The company has also acquired an exclusive license to Eyenovia’s investigational microdose formulation of atropine ophthalmic solution, which is being investigated for the reduction of pediatric myopia progression in children ages 3-12 and is delivered via Eyenovia's Optejet dispenser technology.
On the custom contact lens side of its business, Bausch + Lomb signed an exclusive licensing agreement with KATT Design Group in the United States to utilize their proprietary software as part of the Arise™ Orthokeratology system – an important evolution in myopia treatment with a software driven design – which the company plans to launch in 2021.
Beyond products, this past November Bausch + Lomb announced its exclusive ONE by ONE Recycling program has recycled nearly 27 million used contact lenses, top foils and blister packs since launching in November 2016. The program, made possible through a collaboration with TerraCycle®, a world leader in the collection and repurposing of hard-to-recycle post-consumer waste, has diverted more than 162,000 pounds of contact lens waste from oceans, lakes, streams and landfills.
Today, more than 5,500 optometry practices are registered with the ONE by ONE Recycling program. To participate, contact lens wearers can bring their used contact lenses and packaging to one of these offices, which collects the used lens materials in a custom recycling bin provided by Bausch + Lomb. Once the bin is filled, the optometry practice will ship the materials to TerraCycle for proper recycling using a pre-paid shipping label.
