Poleon Named 2021 Prevent Blindness Rising Visionary Award Recipient
Congratulations to Shervonne Poleon, who has been named the recipient of the 2021 Prevent Blindness Rising Visionary Award.
The Prevent Blindness Rising Visionary Award is presented annually to an optometry student or resident, ophthalmology resident, primary health care, nursing or other health professional student or resident in the United States who has the best essay based on the 2021 Focus on Eye Health National Summit theme: Our Changing Vision.
“Shervonne has a clear vision of the impact she wants to have on the world. Her research and service activities align perfectly with her determination to improve health care access and quality for all,” said Lyne Racette, PhD, associate professor in UAB’s Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and Poleon’s mentor.
Poleon, who is a graduate student in the Vision Science Graduate Program in the UAB School of Optometry, will receive recognition of this award at the Focus on Eye Health National Summit, where she is also invited to present her work as a speaker, in July.
She is from the Caribbean isle of St. Lucia and attended Grambling State University for her undergraduate degree.
