ASCO Hosts Virtual Town Hall for Corporate Contributors
Approximately 70 attendees participated in ASCO’s virtual Town Hall Forum for Corporate Contributors on Thursday, February 10.
The Board of Directors values every opportunity to communicate with industry partners, and this Town Hall was no exception. As travel restrictions begin to wane and attendance at optometry meetings and conventions increase, this virtual Town Hall enabled the participants to discuss what’s new at their institutions/organizations and what challenges are ahead.
Additional topics discussed were:
- Updates and outcomes on ASCO’s public awareness campaign, Optometry Gives Me Life, including the introduction of two new ODs, as well as using the social media platform TikTok.
- ASCO Strategic Plan 2018-2022 updates and updates on new five-year plan.
- ASCO is planning in person meetings for 2022, beginning with the SECO meeting in March.
- DEI updates – upcoming cultural competency workshops and updating complementary cultural competency guidelines and toolkit; Town Hall series on caring for the disabled sponsored by VSP; trying to increase diversity within optometry institutions; cultural competency case study competition sponsored by Walmart.
- Update on development and fundraising — hopeful a new Director of Development will be named soon; ASCO is actively interviewing.
- An open question and answer session from industry representatives and optometry Deans and Presidents.
ASCO thanks our industry partners who were able to participate and are available to those unable to attend. We value our relationships and look forward to more in-person meetings, as long as it is safe to gather. Please feel free to contact ASCO’s CEO and Executive Vice President, Dawn Mancuso, at dmancuso@opted.org with any questions or comments.
