More than 500 Applicants Participated in ORMatch for Third Straight Year
The results of ORMatch 2022 were released March 9. ORMatch matches the student and the optometry residency program based on a mutual ranking algorithm. ORMatch has been in operation since 2013 after being established by ASCO.
Compared to last year’s match, ORMatch experienced a 4% decrease this year in applicants who participated in the match, although this is the third straight year where ORMatch has seen over 500 applicants. Of the applicants who participated, 73% matched with an optometry residency program. Matched applicants submitted on average 4.8 applications each.
ORMatch had 274 optometry residency sites participating with 513 positions being offered. Seventy-five percent of the positions were filled in this year’s match.
ORMatch does have a post-match process where registered applicants who did not obtain a position are able to send applications to programs with available positions. Programs are free to accept any applicant who did not obtain a position in ORMatch, including applicants who did not register for ORMatch.
