The Optometric Retina Society (ORS) is Pleased to Accept Submissions for Our Larry Alexander Resident Case Report Contest
Dr. Alexander was a respected leader and a founding father of our organization. We aim to carry on his memory and legacy with this award.
Any resident participating in an ACOE accredited residency program is eligible to apply. The award will be $1,100. In addition, the winning case report will be published in Review of Optometry.
To honor other past retinal pioneers, this year we are adding a new award, the “ORS Memorial Scholarship.” This award will be $500 and will be published in Optometry Times.
The deadline for application submission is Friday, March 31, 2024, by midnight ET.
Optometric Retina Society - Residency Award Rules and Regulations
- The resident shall be currently enrolled in an ACOE accredited residency program.
- The applicant shall submit their curriculum vitae that shall include the name of the residency program, type of residency program (e.g., primary care, ocular disease); description of patient care experience, areas of research and/or scholarly activity to date, service to the profession and any optometric related teaching experience.
- Submission of a journal quality, double spaced, abstract, case report and referenced discussion. Photography and/or imaging obtained with ancillary testing are encouraged.
- The case should be retinal in nature and the resident has done more than 50% of the care. The length should be at least 1,500 but not too much more than 2,500 words.
- Each case report will be put through plagiarizing software. Plagiarizing will not be tolerated.
- Grading criterion will include, but not limited to uniqueness of case, publishing quality, depth of discussion, grammar, and overall presentation.
- The applicant is encouraged to use PubMed references and to have their mentors assist in proofreading.
- The Application Form should be submitted with the CV and case report. A committee will review all submissions.
Review of Optometry and Optometry Times will have exclusive rights to the publication of these case reports.
