ASCO Updates IPECP Toolkit
ASCO’s Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice Committee (IPRF) announces that ASCO’s IPECP Toolkit, A Guide to Effective Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice Experiences in Optometric Education, has been updated and is available as an open-access document at https://optometriceducation.org/news-resources/ipe-toolkit/. The Toolkit, first made available in 2019, provides background information on the importance of interprofessional education and collaborative practice, practical information for optometry faculty and administrators on preparing for IPECP at their institution, descriptions of IPECP exemplar projects at ASCO member institutions, and strategies for evaluating program initiatives and sustaining a culture of IPECP.
Updates include new exemplar listings, a section on IPE at externship sites including student and preceptor checklists and a sample IPE case, and a listing of organizations dedicated to IPECP and information on how to get involved. Also included is ASCO’s IPECP Core Competencies for Optometric Education, which was added to the Toolkit after being approved by the ASCO Board of Directors in March 2022.
