Former University of Houston (UH) provost, Dean of the College of Optometry and assistant vice chancellor for International Studies and Programs, Jerald W. Strickland, who served as an optometry officer in the U.S. Air Force Medical Service Corp, has passed at the age of 87.
 
Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry (NSUCO) is proud to congratulate Dr. Sherrol Reynolds, OD, who has recently been honored as a Distinguished Fellow to the National Academies of Practice.
 
Alice Kim, class of 2025, received the 2024 Best Practices award from CooperVision. The award enables standout third-year optometry students to learn directly from the best of the best in the profession by participating in the annual Best Practices educational summit.
 
Chicago College of Optometry student Roman Somogy (CCO ’25) shed light on eye safety just prior to the view of the solar eclipse. During his interview with WGN Radio 720 on April 3, 2024, Roman shared the knowledge he acquired from his Midwestern University education and provided information on best practices as the public prepared to see the eclipse.
 
With Southern College of Optometry experiencing 98% totality for the April 8 eclipse, the college worked in advance to promote safe eclipse viewing. Eclipse glasses were provided for students, employees, and patients on the day of the event.
 
Three members of the Salus University Board of Trustees have retired from the board.
 
Maddy Edwards is a first-year student at Salus University in the Doctor of Optometry Accelerated Scholars program. She is from State College, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Penn State University in May 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minors in Women’s Studies and Biochemistry.
