The State University of New York Board of Trustees recently appointed Dr. David Troilo as president of SUNY College of Optometry. He is the 4th president to serve the state’s only college of optometry, following the retirement of Dr. David A. Heath after 17 years of dedicated service to the campus. Dr. Troilo’s appointment is effective immediately.

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education has approved the merger of Salus University with Drexel University. As part of this approval effective June 30, 2024, Salus University’s non-academic, operational units became part of Drexel’s structure, pending additional approval by the United States Department of Education, specialized accreditors, and additional third parties.

Safal Khanal, OD, PhD, FAAO, UAB School of Optometry assistant professor, was awarded the Irvin M. and Beatrice Borish Award from the American Academy of Optometry (AAO). This award recognizes an outstanding young scientist or clinician scientist who shows exceptional promise in conducting independent optometric research directly related to etiology, prevention, detection, diagnosis, or management of clinical eye disorders.
