Direct costs awarded from July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024 for research at ASCO member institutions declined approximately 12%, from about $40 million in 2022-23 to about $35.3 million in 2023-24, according to ASCO’s latest Research Survey Report. $18.8 million came from the National Eye Institute (down from $21.3 million), $9.8 million from industry (down from $12 million), and $2.3 million from private foundations (down from $2.7 million.)

Did you know Dr. Nicole C. Ross, OD, MSc, FAAO, Dipl. AAO (LV) is not only an Associate Professor at NECO, an Optometrist at Perkins School for the Blind and The Carroll Center for the Blind, but also a PhD student at Northeastern University?
 
As president of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO), Salus at Drexel University chapter of the Student Optometric Service to Humanity (SOSH), Nicole Trifilio ‘26OD, alongside Vice President Mariam Majid ‘26OD, found the group’s recent service trip to Jamaica particularly meaningful.

The new year brings new leadership changes to SCO’s Clinical Programs. Effective January 1, Dr. Scott Ensor has been promoted to Vice President for Clinical Programs, overseeing clinical operations in partnership with our clinical directors.
 
Just before he graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Kurt Moody, OD ‘83, FAAO, received a phone call from Joseph Pugliese, MD, an ophthalmologist from his hometown.

Third- and fourth-year students who are involved in patient care are invited to submit a written patient case study to the American Board of Optometry (ABO). The case study should be based on a clinical case where the student has been involved in the diagnosis and/or management of the patient.
