The University of Missouri St. Louis College of Optometry is pleased to introduce the Eyes on Diversity Program Spring 2022. Eyes on Diversity is an interactive learning experience for high school junior and senior students, with emphasis on those from backgrounds underrepresented in healthcare. Our program will provide hands-on activities and presentations about pursuing a Doctor of Optometry degree. Students will also engage in professional and personal development workshops. 
 
The Arizona College of Optometry (AZCOPT) at Midwestern University recently received the Healthy Eyes Healthy Children grant from Optometry Cares – the AOA Foundation, the American Optometric Association’s philanthropic and charitable organization.
 
For the eighth consecutive year, Community Eye Care (CEC), the community service arm of UAB Eye Care, celebrated the holiday season by hosting Gift of Sight. From November 29 to December 10, CEC provided free comprehensive eye exams and glasses to people in need.
 
Based on survey results by its employees, Southern College of Optometry was recently named the recipient of the Top Workplaces Award by the newspaper in Memphis.
 
The Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) at Salus University welcomes Fiza Tariq, OD '20, Resident '21, as an instructor and optometrist in The Eye Institute’s (TEI) pediatric services.
 
Beth Moy, MSW, has been named the new chief of staff at Salus University. She comes to Salus after serving as the executive director of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Consortium for Higher Education (SEPCHE).
 
Richard Feldstein, OD ‘62, has been playing tennis for more than 75 years. Now he’d like to do what he can to help blind and visually impaired children learn the joys of participating in his beloved sport.
 
Dr. James E. Venable, Vice President for Clinical Programs at SCO, was recently appointed to a five-year term on the Tennessee State Board of Optometry by the state’s governor.

While disappointed to move to a virtual format again this year, the Clinical Optometric Methods and Procedures Special Interest Group (SIG) was able to hold a very productive 2021 meeting with 16 schools and colleges of optometry participating.

National Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (NAEVR) and Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (AEVR) Boards President Paul Lee, MD, JD (Kellogg Eye Center/University of Michigan) announces Dan Ignaszewski as the Alliances’ new Executive Director, effective January 24, 2022, with the retirement of Executive Director James Jorkasky after 19 years of extraordinary contributions to the vison research community.
 
The National Board of Examiners in Optometry® (NBEO) expresses sincere appreciation to all who assisted in fulfilling our mission in 2021, which was a challenging year for many. As we begin 2022 with optimism, we share the following updates.
