ASCO’s Board of Directors, invited guests and staff gathered in Washington, D.C., for the Summer Board of Directors meeting as well as the Annual Meeting.

The ASCO Student Affairs and Admissions Professional Group (SAAs) met at the Southern College of Optometry on June 26-27. They discussed a variety of issues, including holistic admissions, student orientation, and held an OptomCAS WebAdMIT training session. The SAAs also enjoyed an evening networking reception at the Majestic Grille in downtown Memphis.

ASCO staff was busy in June and July promoting the new Eye Opener Sessions Program, in addition to the Optometry Gives Me Life (OGML) public awareness campaign at both the American Optometry Association’s (AOA) Optometry Meeting in Washington, DC and the National Optometric Association (NOA) meeting in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The staff gave away OGML t-shirts at both conferences to optometrists and optometry students.

Midwestern University held its fifth annual Summer Eye Experience (SEE) program offered by the Chicago College of Optometry (CCO). Prevent Blindness, the nation’s leading eye health and safety organization, has announced the recipient of the 2023 Jenny Pomeroy Award for Excellence in Vision and Public Health as Dean A. VanNasdale, Jr., OD, PhD, Associate Professor at The Ohio State University College of Optometry. He received his award during the 12th Annual Prevent Blindness Focus on Eye Health Summit, held virtually July 12-13, 2023.
