Every fall, Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) at Salus University faculty, residents, students and staff descend upon a different city for a robust lineup of lectures, events, poster presentations, workshops and much more at the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) conference. This year, New Orleans, or ‘The Big Easy,’ known for its specialty cuisines, jazz music and historic architecture, was the host city.

Berkeley Optometry's inaugural flu vaccination clinic was a huge success!
On October 23rd, 112 influenza vaccines were administered to staff, faculty, and students by our third-year optometry students, which exceeded our goal of delivering 100 vaccines. A big thank you to everyone who was involved, from organizing and planning to clinic operations.

As part of Midwestern University’s commitment to the One Health Initiative and interprofessional education, optometry students performed several vision tests as part of a binocular vision screening on incoming dental students at the University’s Eye Institute in Downers Grove, Illinois, and Glendale, Arizona.

NECO presents alternative ways to understand how we see
The New England College of Optometry (NECO) Center for Eye Care has a new interactive experience featuring a tactile image of the visual system on display at 930 Commonwealth Ave. A tactile image allows touch and sound to stimulate a sensory experience for the brain to create a visual image that allows a person to ‘see.’ The visual system is complex, but this learning tool helps individuals understand the inner workings of the brain that create a visual understanding of the world.

The Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (IPECP) Special Interest Group (SIG) held their summit at the home of Dr. Tina Gunaldo, who facilitated an informal conversation starting with her story and journey, motivation, methods to spread buy-in with colleagues, and publication strategies within interprofessional education (IPE).

The Low Vision Special Interest Group (SIG) met on October 12, 2023. Dr. Rebecca Krammer gave an update on the small incision next generation IMT (implantable miniature telescope) with special attention on the role of optometry.
