Important update regarding Shad 2020 programming

Dear Educators,
Shad Canada would like to thank you for your ongoing support and partnership over the past number of years. Thanks to support from educators like you, we have been able to further our reach to remarkable and diverse youth across the country.
Shad Canada has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 program due to the COVID-19 outbreak in order to put the health and safety of our participants, team members and post-secondary partners first.
Notice of this decision and information about next steps has been sent out to all of our 2020 participants and parents.
We are committed to following the advice from Public Health Canada and feel that running our programming would conflict with medical advice that has been presented. Also, given the challenges currently facing our university partners (many of whom have started to cancel in-person programs for the summer), it is unclear when or if our Shad programs would be authorized to operate on campus.
Why now?
I realize you may be wondering why we could not defer this decision. We have agonized over this but as you can likely imagine, there are many planning and financial commitments required in running a program of this size and duration, which simply don’t allow us to wait any longer. As a charitable organization, we need to be ever mindful of our duty to make the best use of our donations and grants. Making this decision today will still create a significant challenge to our organization but doing so will allow us to weather this period of uncertainty and ensure the continuation of the program for years to come.
More information for our 2020 participants and their parents about eligibility and refunds can be found on our FAQ page. https://www.shad.ca/2020FAQ/
If you have any questions which aren’t addressed here or in our future communications, please feel free to be in touch with us by emailing Jess Tang at: jess@shad.ca and/or Kyle Blaney at: kyle@shad.ca
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we navigate through these difficult times, and we hope you are all staying safe and are well.
Sincerely,
Tim Jackson, CEO
