What Programs Are Highly Competitive?
Some programs offered by Ontario colleges are considered highly competitive, which means that there are more qualified applicants for the program than there are seats available for the fall start date. After ECD, seats in highly competitive programs may be full and applications to these programs may be closed.
If you’re applying for a highly competitive program, you need to apply on or before February 1st for your application to be considered on an equal basis with all other applicants.
Here’s just a handful of programs that are often considered highly competitive:
- Paramedic
- Dental Hygiene
- Nursing
- Laboratory Technician
- Police Foundations
- Aviation
Keep in mind that every college will have its own highly competitive programs (for example, Sheridan College’s animation programs or St. Clair College’s child and youth worker programs). You can find a list of all the competitive programs on the ontariocolleges.ca website.
?What Are Some Less Competitive Programs?
There are many programs that remain open after the equal consideration date, as well as programs that start at different times of the year. Use our Find a Program tool to see open programs and access information on when to apply.
