Gina Vincent - Director

Greetings! My name is Gina Vincent and I am the Elementary Guidance Lead for the Toronto Catholic District School Board with 23 years of Guidance experience, and have been an OSCA/ACOSO Board Member since 2009. In my role at the TCDSB, I have been working to help support teachers, students and other Guidance Counsellors navigate the complicated educational landscape that we have been faced with since Spring of 2020. It has been challenging to shift the way we usually do things, but it has helped me to learn new skills and seek out Professional Learning opportunities that may not have been available before. Living through this pandemic has been a time to appreciate the simple things in life and to embrace the solitude of my own company. I have been trying to engage in regular self-care by staying connected with friends and family on the phone, virtually, or through safe-distancing interactions. I try to maintain healthy eating and sleep habits, and get outside for walks. I have started cooking many traditional dishes from my Greek heritage, and I also keep regular chiropractic, physiotherapy and massage appointments, as I find that these help me feel like I am being taken care of. I may be watching a little more TV than I should, but I have gone back to re-watching a number of favourite series, as the familiarity seems to offer a sense of safety when so much else in our lives is unfamiliar. I also try to keep "an attitude of gratitude” in my daily thoughts, and in my relationships with others. I am grateful for the busyness of being able to continue in my work, when so many others have lost their jobs or need to be home with small children or elderly parents; I am grateful for the close collaboration I have with my colleagues at work; I am grateful for the ability to be able to help support students in our board especially now, and I am grateful being fortunate enough to work with the amazing people on the OSCA/ACOSO Board of Directors!

Salut ! Je m'appelle Gina Vincent et je suis responsable de l'orientation à l’élémentaire pour le Toronto Catholic District School Board avec 23 ans d'expérience en orientation, et je suis membre du conseil d'administration de l'OSCA/ACOSO depuis 2009. Dans mon rôle au TCDSB, je travaille pour aider à soutenir les enseignants, les élèves et les autres conseillers en orientation pour naviguer dans le paysage éducatif complexe auquel nous sommes confrontés depuis le printemps 2020. Il a été difficile de changer notre façon habituelle de faire les choses, mais cela m'a aidé à acquérir de nouvelles compétences et à rechercher un apprentissage professionnel et des opportunités qui n'étaient peut-être pas disponibles auparavant. Vivre à travers cette pandémie a été le moment d'apprécier les choses simples de la vie et d'embrasser la solitude de ma propre entreprise. J'ai essayé de m'occuper régulièrement de moi-même en restant connectée avec mes amis et ma famille par téléphone, virtuellement, ou encore grâce à des interactions sécuritaires. J'essaie de maintenir des habitudes saines de sommeil et d’alimentation, et de sortir me promener. J'ai commencé à cuisiner de nombreux plats traditionnels de mon héritage grec et je garde régulièrement des rendez-vous de chiropraxie, de physiothérapie et de massage, car je trouve que cela m'aide à me sentir prise en charge. Je regarde la télévision peut-être un peu plus qu’il ne le faudrait, mais je suis retournée à un certain nombre de séries préférées, car la familiarité semble offrir un sentiment de sécurité alors que tant d'autres choses dans nos vies ne sont pas familières. J'essaye également de garder «une attitude de gratitude» dans mes pensées quotidiennes et dans mes relations avec les autres. Je suis reconnaissante d’être affairée et de pouvoir continuer mon travail, alors que tant d'autres ont perdu leur emploi ou ont besoin d'être à la maison avec de jeunes enfants ou des parents âgés. Je suis reconnaissante de l'étroite collaboration que j'ai avec mes collègues de travail. Je suis reconnaissante de pouvoir aider à soutenir les élèves de notre conseil, surtout maintenant, et je suis heureuse d'avoir la chance de travailler avec des gens extraordinaires au conseil d'administration de l'OSCA/ACOSO !
