Every student's academic journey is unique, and sometimes, there are unexpected challenges; for example, a student may not get into their first choice of program or school, a program may not be a good fit, or interests can change along the way.

Apprenticeship is a form of post-secondary education like university or college. But there’s a big difference:
Apprentices not only learn skills in a classroom, but receive paid, on-the-job training with your employer/sponsor.

YOU CAN EARN WHILE YOU LEARN!

80% of apprenticeship training happens on-the-job with your employer and the other 20% is completed in-school over two 12-week winter semesters. Discover the Horticultural Technician 441C Apprenticeship Program, a Red Seal trade in Ontario for the horticulture and landscaping profession.
Whether your client is just starting out in their career, or ready to make a career change, career assessments can be a helpful tool to spark ideas and identify strengths. While some career professionals may prefer to use only paid assessments, these are not always financially accessible to all service providers. Of course, with any career test, it is important to analyze whether it is the right fit for your client as well as its reliability and validity. (This post from CLSR titled "Always assess the assessment" may be helpful in your analysis.) Here are 16 free career assessments to help get you started.

Education
In recent years, there has been a notable shift in hiring practices toward greater objectivity and fairness. More and more, employers are moving away from requesting individuals disclose certain personal information at the initial stages of the application process. The aim of this is simple: to reduce potential biases and give hiring managers a more impartial view of applicants, focusing solely on the professional value they bring to the table.

For example, there has been a shift away from including photos in resumes to mitigate demographic biases. In addition, some professionals choose to omit the dates on their education credentials to counteract ageism, ensuring that qualifications speak louder than chronological age.

For many young people in Canada, post-secondary education is a catch-22. While a university or college degree increases an individual’s earning potential in the long term, the high cost of living and attending post-secondary pose significant barriers to both accessing and succeeding in school – particularly for certain student populations.
