The Regional Assessment and Resource Centre (RARC) promotes equity and access for students with
neurodevelopmental disorders in post-secondary education, by providing evidence-based services and supports to students, practitioners, and educators across Ontario. Our vision is to enable students with neurodevelopmental disabilities to thrive in post-secondary education. In this presentation, we will discuss programming, accommodations, and supports that equip secondary students with disabilities with the necessary knowledge and skills to access post-secondary education. Presenters will highlight the important role of transition planning to help students feel more confident and prepared to meet educational challenges. The role of assessment and appropriate determination and implementation of accommodations will also be central to the discussion. This training is appropriate for grade 11 and 12 students with learning disabilities, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and/or Mental Health Disorders, parents/guardians, and resource teachers. There is no fee or registration required for this event. The last Ontario Universities’ Information Sessions virtual event is Thursday, November 21, from 5 to 7 pm (ET). Education
In recent years, there has been a notable shift in hiring practices toward greater objectivity and fairness. More and more, employers are moving away from requesting individuals disclose certain personal information at the initial stages of the application process. The aim of this is simple: to reduce potential biases and give hiring managers a more impartial view of applicants, focusing solely on the professional value they bring to the table.
For example, there has been a shift away from including photos in resumes to mitigate demographic biases. In addition, some professionals choose to omit the dates on their education credentials to counteract ageism, ensuring that qualifications speak louder than chronological age. Subscribers' Lounge
Dear members – we would like to invite you to take part in a national survey about students’ interests in computing careers. The survey takes approximately seven to 10 minutes to complete and is open to all highschool counsellors practicing in Canada. This survey is being conducted by researchers at Mount Royal University, has been approved by MRU’s human research ethics board, and is sponsored by CERIC. Results will be used to create the third edition of the free resource: Computing Careers & Disciplines: A Quick Guide for Prospective Students and Career Advisors (available for download in both English and French from ceric.ca). Your participation is voluntary, and your responses will be collected anonymously. Details about the project and access to the survey is available through this link: https://mtroyal.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4VKOvqoNVQI5yJw
