The Ontario School Counsellor Association recognizes that we need more racialized people to become Guidance Counsellors in Ontario. More racialized people working as Guidance Counsellors will help our students feel safer, represented, and seen. It will help our schools and our organization through more adequate representation of the socio-cultural composition of Ontarians, and amplify much needed perspectives.

As we plan our first hybrid Cannexus conference... Planning for Cannexus, Canada's Career Development Conference in January 2022 is now underway. Cannexus22 is expected to be a hybrid conference with a live in-person and virtual portion. More information about the format and schedule will be available in the coming months. At this point, CERIC invites individuals or organizations with an interest in presenting at the 16th annual Cannexus to submit a brief session outline for consideration using the Proposal Form and encourages you to inform colleagues or students of this opportunity. Submitting a proposal is not a commitment to present at the conference. If you submit a proposal and you are selected to present, you will receive a formal email invitation by the summer – with further details on session type, duration and whether in-person or virtual – and at that time you will be given a deadline to accept or decline the invitation. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Alors que nous planifions notre première congrès hybride Cannexus La planification du congrès canadien en développement de carrière de Cannexus en janvier 2022 est maintenant en cours. This is the fifth lesson in a series of six lessons to support the development of stress management and healthy coping skills. Do you ever notice that sometimes you get stuck in thinking negative thoughts or assuming that other people might be thinking or feeling a certain way about you? Do you spend time worrying about the future and what may or may not happen? We call these "thinking traps" and they can happen to any of us! While these thoughts are often unrealistic or untrue, they can impact how we feel about ourselves and others. This virtual field trip focuses on thought-changing strategies. These strategies help us slow down and notice how we might be feeling. We can begin to identify thinking traps while developing skills to help us challenge and restructure our thinking in healthy ways. The skills we develop using thought-changing strategies can support self-awareness, self-monitoring, and communication of thoughts and feelings.
During the COVID-19 pandemic there have been heightened levels of anxiety, depression, substance abuse, along with other psychological problems. It is important for mental health professionals to understand how pandemics and pandemic management affects the mental health of clients, and to be able to use this information to better support ourselves and our clients in a practical manner during this time. This session will include a lecture from the speaker and will be followed by a question and answer session. Participants will have a chance to submit questions in advance of the event, as well as in the live chat. The webinar will be held on June 4, 2021, and will run from 9:00am to 12:00pm (Mountain Standard Time). This webinar will be hosted using Zoom and recorded for those who are unable to attend the live event. All registrants will receive a link to the recorded webinar and all presentation materials several days after the conclusion of the event.

Whether you’re a teacher, education support worker, or other youth service practitioner, you’ll get the information and resources you need to design a new mindfulness curriculum or implement an existing one. pandemic, we would love to hear from you. We would love it if you would write an article for
