Post Secondary Information

Good afternoon OSCA Community Members,

On behalf of Western University, I am writing to share that Western and Brescia University College have begun a process that will see Brescia fully integrate into Western’s campus community as of May 2024.

Together, Western and Brescia have identified an opportunity to extend Brescia’s legacy while responding to an increasingly diverse undergraduate student body.

Effective immediately, Brescia University College will no longer be accepting students for Fall 2024. We know many of your students will have interest in programs in Family Studies and Foods and Nutrition that have long been established at Brescia. Those programs will continue to be offered to students at Western. As we look ahead, we are excited to establish broader pathway programs to help your students access and prepare for university education. We look forward to sharing more on these new initiatives as they are developed.

Western and affiliates look forward to supporting your students, and we welcome questions from the guidance community. You can join our email list, or contact our team at welcome@uwo.ca to learn more.

Sincerely,

Kim Randall

Many conversations I have with young adults start with a statement like this: "I am stuck. I have no idea what I am passionate about. What if I make the wrong career choice and I am not passionate about the work?"

What I increasingly see among young adults is decision paralysis – or what I have started to call Passion Paralysis. This paralysis stems from the fear and trepidation that many young adults experience in trying to narr

Indigenous youth across Canada face serious challenges when it comes to employment. It’s a complex problem, and will require integrated, collaborative solutions. At a time when unprecedented numbers of Indigenous youth are entering the workforce, it’s critical that employers look at everything that a young Indigenous person brings to the workplace and to their community.

According to Statistics Canada, in 2016, the unemployment rate for Indigenous youth was 23%, compared with 15.1% for non-Indigenous youth. Recent data on the COVID-19 downturn show that although youth encountered a challenging summer job landscape in 2020, the labour market was much more favourable in 2021. Employment was slower to recover for Indigenous peoples overall, so it’s great to see Indigenous youth employment trending upward.
