In early June, AMC presented a submission encouraging the Canadian government to pursue a free trade agreement with China.  AMC’s submission can be found on the member portal or downloaded here.

In addition, the Canadian government launched formal consultations regarding the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).  AMC has been working with Global Affairs and will provide a written submission on behalf of members affirming the following key messages:

  • Agriculture equipment manufacturers help set the global standard for agriculture equipment.
  • In 2016, Canadian agricultural equipment manufacturers exported over $1.8 billion of agriculture implements to 151 countries.
  • In the last 5 years, the United States (US) has made up approximately 79% (or $1.5 billion) of Canada’s total exports of agricultural implements.
  • In terms of imports, Canada imports agricultural equipment implements valued at $3.2 billion annually from the US or 69% of the total agricultural implements imported into Canada. This figure includes implements produced by shortline and mainline manufacturers.
  • The US is a strong and key market for Canadian agricultural equipment manufacturers.
  • We encourage the government to be vigilant in its approach to the renegotiation of NAFTA and we are happy to support and be part of the consultations moving forward.

The government is asking that stakeholders provide their written comments on or before July 18. If you are interested in contributing individually, please submit and follow the directions provided here:
