A Note From The President

Director of Education, Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA)
2010-2011 President, MPI Potomac Chapter

As we approach spring, lots of things are starting to blossom, including the new January 2011 class of CMPS! On behalf of Meeting Professionals International, Potomac Chapter, I’d like to congratulate all of our members that just earned their CMP! I am thrilled that several of the new CMPs are also PMPI board members; Kumi Anzalone, Will Trokey, Tammy Kockaya, and Jason Watkins. We will be acknowledging all of our new CMPs at our upcoming April 27th Learning Experience, stay tuned for details.

Upcoming this month, MPI National Headquarters will be sending out a membership satisfaction survey. This will give you an opportunity to express how you feel the PMPI leadership is doing and the overall health of the chapter. The national survey will hold us accountable to MPI for your overall satisfaction of our Chapter’s offerings.

Later this month, we will share the proposed slate of candidates for the PMPI Board of Directors, for your consideration. All unopposed nominees assume the offices for which they are slated effective July 1, 2011. For those members that would like to get more involved in the chapter, we would like to invite you to join one of our committees. Please visit http://www.pmpi.org for committee descriptions and sign up form.

We are planning lots of great events, this month and I look forward to seeing you at one of the many opportunities highlighted in this month’s Potomac Connections. Continue to make the most out of your membership, stay connected and engaged and follow us on: , , and .

For every new member you recruit to join PMPI, you’ll receive an entry into a drawing for an all-expenses paid trip to Hollywood, California! When you recruit a new member, tell them to insert your name or MPI Member Number on the membership application they submit. Send an email to info@pmpi.org with the name of the new member and you’ll be entered into the drawing! It’s that easy!

So start telling your friends and colleagues about the benefits of joining PMPI...it could just be your ticket to Hollywood.

Congratulations to Community Out Reach Committee co-chair, Katie Hais and Chris Moore on their recent engagement!

Warm congratulations to VP of Education, Shonzia and husband, Connie Thompson who are the proud parents of a baby girl, Taylor Alexis Thompson, born March 8 weighing in at 6 lbs and 6 oz and 18 inches in length. Mom, Dad, and Baby are all doing well and enjoying their new family.

It is easy, only costs $40, and could make a huge impact for a very grateful student.

Too often students are bombarded with the costs of tuition, books, housing, and food. With these expenses mounting, their discretionary funds for career development are diminished. Your generous support could assist a student in taking the next step towards joining the industry.

If you are interested in sponsoring a student please complete the form attached and return it to the Student Relations Committee Co-Chairs or the Association Manager.

PMPI’s Community Outreach Committee would like to thank all of our members who generously donated items for our "Thoughtful Treasure Drive," collecting small gift items for the residents and patients at the Children’s Inn at NIH. We will be continuing this drive through March, so if you would still like to donate please contact either Katie Hais or Laura Gardner.

We’d also like to thank everyone who donated to the 50/50 raffle at MACE. We surpassed our MACE goal thanks to both Michelle Allgauer, and Elizabeth LaChall whom donated their winnings back to the charity. In order to raise more funds and make our year end goal for our charity of the year, the COC is asking for donations to be given to raffle winners. This will allow all of the money collected to go directly to the Children’s Inn. Please contact the COC co-chairs if you or your company is interested in donating any gift items.

The COC is also pleased to announce its spring charity event, a "Family Dinner" for residents of the Children’s Inn at NIH. The dinner will be held the evening of April 18th. We’ll need volunteers to assist with the dinner along with donations of food, paper goods, and decorations. \

Able to lend a hand? Contact COC co-chairs Laura Gardner (link to laura.gardner@destinationdc.com) or Katie Hais (link to khais@ahla.com) for more information.
