Botnia, Finland, has approved "renewal investments" at its Kemi mill in Finland. The investments will include completely new causticizing, and water plants will be constructed on the mill premises. The total investment is approximately EUR 40 million. Negotiations for main equipment will get underway immediately, the company says, and construction will begin in October. The new plants, to be ready for operation at the end of 2011, will improve efficiency, reliability, and environmental performance of the mill.
Botnia is the marketing name for Oy Metsä-Botnia Ab, which is owned by M-real Oyj, Metsäliitto Osuuskunta, and UPM-Kymmene Oyj. Its pulp mills are located in Joutseno, Kemi, Rauma, and Äänekoski in Finland.
