New Baiyun Paper Machine in China Will Have ABB Automation, Drive Systems

Baiyun Paper Co., a member of the Henan Investment Group, Beijing, China, has awarded ABB, Zurich, Switzerland, an order to provide automation and drive systems for a new paper machine at the company's paper mill in Baiyun, China, which is located 900 km southwest of Peking. When completed, the new paper machine will have an annual capacity of 136,000 metric tons The project is Phase II of a copier and offset paper project of Zhumadian Baiyun Paper Co., and part of a $247 million total investment to expand capacity. It is expected to be operational in April 2011.
ABB's automation includes a drive system that will optimize the performance of the new paper machine provided by Voith AG, Germany. The paper machine has a design speed of 1,500 m/min and a width of 5.28 m. It will mainly produce copy paper and offset paper of 60 g/m2 – 120 g/m2. Daily productivity could be as high as 800 metric tons and annual productivity could be more than 200,000 metric tons.
