Stora Enso, Finland, this week said it may reach a decision yet this year on whether to build a pulp mill in Uruguay. In remarks to a Finnish business magazine, Stora Enso CEO Jouko Karvinen noted that if the company decided to build the mill, it would be a couple of years before its machines would be running. Karvinen criticized the chronic overcapacity of papermaking in Europe, and said that a plan to build a pulp and fine paper mill in Russia is still on hold. However, Stora Enso is in discussions about extending a pulp mill in Brazil, he added.
