Installation of Voith Paper, Germany, SkyTop doctor blades on PM 1 at Stora Enso's Eilenburg, Germany, mill is being credited for increasing the roughness of the central press roll by 0.1 µm, leading to a better sheet release and lower draw. Lower draw in the press leads to higher speed of the paper machine and fewer paper breaks, the company notes.
SkyTop doctor blades are designed for cleaning and conditioning of the roll surface in sections with extreme mechanical loads, such as the press section. Voith Paper notes that its best fit for the press section is the TerraSpeed thermal coating combined with the SkyTop doctor blade.
