Market Pulp Demand, Prices Rise

Fibria & Altri (Europe only) have announced a $30/metric ton global price increase on hardwood pulp for April, reports Mark Wilde, senior analysts with Deutsche Bank. Softwood demand, he adds, appears steady and prices are rising.
Major producers have announced a $30/metric ton price increase on softwood grades in China for April. In March, U.S. NBSK rose $30/metric ton to $990/metric ton. The March 11 earthquake in Japan has shutdown several pulp and paper mills, making raw material procurement difficult.
