More than £800 was raised by employees at Spooner Industries' head office in West Yorkshire, England, this past week in support of Comic Relief as they celebrated Red Nose Day on March 18. A host of fund raising activities including fancy dress competitions, cake baking, a raffle of promises, games, and quizzes took place with the highlight and biggest money spinner being the "Punish your Manager" nominations.

In the run up to Comic Relief, jars displaying mug shots of the company's management team including Managing Director Mike Brook, Sales and Project Director Steve Newell, Manufacturing Manager Robert Proctor, Technical Manager Andrew Marson, and Financial Controller John Muggleston were used to collect staff donations and decide who should receive a custard pie in the face.

The results were unanimous, with the clear favorite (or rather least favorite) being Robert Proctor, whose jar contained £129, with Steve Newell taking second place (his jar contained £87). The custard pies were offered to the crowd for extra donations and in total Proctor received three pies in the face.

According to Kate Baker, marketing manager for Spooner, "as a UK manufacturer supplying companies around the world, we are pleased to be able to raise money to help the less fortunate in some of those countries. Red Nose Day also provided a great excuse for Spooner employees to get their own back on the management."
