As expected, North American NBSK (northern bleached softwood kraft) list prices have dropped $30 to $990/metric ton, Wilde reports. Hardwood grades also declined $20 - $30/metric ton (August NBHK = $820/metric ton). Spot prices remain quite weak, Wilde says, adding that there are reports of NBSK in the $760 - $810/metric ton range and NBHK (northern bleached hardwood kraft) in the low- to mid-$600s. "Trade contacts have reported spot BEK (bleached eucalyptus kraft) deals at ˜$600/metric ton in Europe. In China, weak demand and rising inventories have pulled prices down," he says.
