Kotkamills Oy, Finland, is upgrading the recovery boiler at its Kotka mill in Finland by renewing the bottom of the unit and installing new air distribution technology. The EUR 3 million modernization is being conducted by Andritz, Graz, Austria. The main goal of the project, to be carried out during 2013, is to improve energy efficiency and reduce air emissions.
The modernization also will have "a decade's-worth of positive impact on the production of Absorbex® kraft paper," the company noted. Absorbex is produced mostly from sawdust pulp produced by the company's own pulp mill. This arrangement allows the company to use the by-product of its own sawmill, sawdust, to manufacture this export product, often with a life cycle of decades in its end-use applications.
Kotkamills specializes in laminating paper, matt coated bulky paper, and sawn products.
