U.S. P&W Paper Shipments Edge Down

Total U.S. printing and writing (P&W) paper shipments in January were down 3% from January 2012, according to the AF&PA (Washington, D.C., USA) January 2013 Printing-Writing Paper Report released this week. Additional key findings of the report include:
- January shipments of coated free sheet (CFS) papers in the U.S. increased by 5% compared with January 2012, the third year-over-year increase in the past four months
- Uncoated free sheet (UFS) papers shipments of 766,300 tons in January were 3% below the same period last year
- January uncoated mechanical (UM) paper shipments decreased 10% compared with January 2012
- January shipments of coated mechanical (CM) decreased 9%, compared with January 2012, to 255,900 tons.
