Frank J. Sutman Appointed to TAPPI Board of Directors

Frank J. Sutman, Ashland Water Technologies, has been appointed by the TAPPI Nominating Committee and approved by the TAPPI Board to serve out the remaining time of a vacated board of directors seat. Frank will serve effective immediately through March 2015.

"His in-depth technical knowledge coupled with his strong leadership skills will be extremely valuable as we strive to offer TAPPI's members the best possible world class products and services."
Sutman began his career in research with Great Northern Paper Co. and then served with Georgia-Pacific Corp./Great Northern Paper Co. as quality assurance supervisor and technical director. For 16 years, he was a senior research scientist with Hercules Pulp and Paper Division/BetzDearborn Paper Process Group/Betz Paperchem Inc. In 2006, he became a research fellow with Hercules, now Ashland Water Technologies in Wilmington, Del. In 2009, he assumed the role of senior group leader, focusing on specialty chemical functional and process solutions for papermaking applications.
At TAPPI, Sutman has held several key leadership positions, including chairman of the Engineering Division, steering committee chair for PaperCon, and chairman of the Water Removal Committee. He is a past member of IPST's Recycle Elective Research Consortium Advisory Group and Papermaking PAC, and a former VP, North America, International Association of Scientific Papermakers. TAPPI honors include the Engineering Division Leadership and Service Award, and in 2010 he was named a TAPPI Fellow. He has published numerous technical papers and holds 10 patents.
Sutman holds a B.S. in forest products from the University of Idaho and M.S. in paper chemistry from the Institute of Paper Chemistry.
