Hamburger Rieger reports that has finalized its decision to invest substantially in the expansion of its Spremberg and Trostberg mills in Germany. With a total investment of EUR 18 million, Paper Machine No. 1 in Spremberg will be converted to the production of coated WTTestliner (containerboard). The conversion of this machine will be carried out toward the end of 2014, with a startup (and the ability to produce coated testliners) at the beginning of 2015.With this planned conversion, Hamburger notes that it continues to advance the quality and expansion of its product portfolio by further strengthening its position as a market leader in coated and uncoated testliners. As a result, this conversion will allow the production of coated testliners in widths up to 280 cm.
Hamburger Rieger’s Trostberg mill will continue to expand its production of specialized coated testliner grades, especially for preprint. The Investment is part of the strategy of Hamburger Containerboard to expand its total production potential in the white market (white top testliner, coated and uncoated) in the medium-term, from the current 450,000 metric tpy to 750,000 metric tpy.
Hamburger Containerboard is a division of the Austrian Prinzhorn Holding. With a total annual production capacity of 1.7 million metric tpy, Hamburger Containerboard is one of the market leaders in this grade sector in Europe. The division employs 1,100 people at its four production sites at Hamburger Austria (Pitten/A), Hamburger Rieger (Trostberg and Spremberg ) and Hamburger Hungária (Dunaújváros/H).
