Nippon Paper Industries, Japan, reports that it will install a photovoltaic facility/solar power facility (approximately 826 KW capacity) by effectively using part of its Otake Mill site (Otake City, Hiroshima Prefecture). Construction will start this month, and by using the feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme for renewable energy, Nippon will sell electric power to the Chugoku Electric Power Co. Hiroshima City, Hiroshima; beginning in February.

Nippon Paper Industries says that it is actively cultivating new business, particularly in the energy business, one of the Group’s sources of profit, as a comprehensive biomass company aiming to achieve sustainable growth. Nippon is currently developing a mega-solar project (joint business with Mitsubishi Corp.) at its site in Komatsushima City, Tokushima Prefecture. The initiative to be taken at Otake Mill will be Nippon’s second project in the solar power generation business.

In the photo below, the areas outlined in yellow are the Otake Mill’s production areas, and the red is where the solar power facility will be built.
