While his original intent upon joining TAPPI three decades ago was access to technical resources, Ted Wegner, Ph.D., says it was the active participatory role he assumed that helped him remain a vital resource to his employer.
"I have worked for the same organization for more than 36 years and during that time I have felt the need to ‘reinvent’ myself by taking on new challenges," said Dr. Wegner. "My advice to others as your careers develop is to not get locked into one thing but to continually try to associate yourself with change and position yourself to be a vital part of your organization’s future versus a guardian of the past. "The best avenue for that? "TAPPI," he says, "is a prime delivery vehicle for lifetime learning."
