Four KapStone Employees Receive Safety Awards

KapStone Paper and Packaging Corp., Northbrook, Ill., USA, reports that four of its employees received safety awards at the Western Pulp, Paper & Forest Products Safety & Health Conference in a western-U.S. region industry conference this past week in Portland, Ore. The conference, currently in its 23rd year, is the largest safety and health event in the West targeted at the pulp, paper, forest workers, and converting industries. The KapStone recipients were:

• Creighton Shaul, Yakima, Wash. container plant, received the Jack Kirkpatrick Award for achievement and dedication to the field of safety
• Tommy Baker, Seattle, Wash., container plant, received the AWPPW Washington-Alaska Safety Rep of the Year award
• Bruce Stoner, Longview, Wash., pulp and paper mill, received the Safety Advocate of the Year award
• Shayne Bird, Twin Falls container plant, received the Safety Professional of the Year award.

The Western Pulp, Paper & Forest Products Safety & Health Conference is a joint effort organized by union workers in the Western states of Oregon, Idaho, Utah, California, and Washington, along with pulp and paper companies with operations in those same states, as well as governmental departments that deal with matters related to worker health and safety in the states of Oregon and Washington (OSHA in Oregon and DOSH in Washington). 

KapStone produces containerboard, unbleached kraft paper products, and corrugated products. The company operates four paper mills and 22 converting plants in the U.S. The business employs approximately 4,500 people
