The TAPPI Microbiology & Microbial Technology Committee has announced the next webinar in its series on microbes in papermaking. "Microbes in Fresh and Recycled Water Systems" will be held Jan. 15, 2014, at 12:00 p.m. EST. This webinar will discuss freshwater treatment and the impact water system closure has on paper and board.
Water, the most abundant raw material used in the manufacture of paper, is critical for pulping, for dilution of chemicals, for process water makeup, and for a myriad of other applications. The sanitation and clarity of both incoming water and recycled water has a profound effect on machine runnability as well as the quality of paper and board products. Sheet defects, holes, breaks, downtime, and malodorous in finished products are often related to inadequate water treatment.
The webinar will be hosted by Linda Robertson of International Microbial Associates. Linda started her career in the paper industry in 1974 at Weyerhaeuser as a microbiologist/microscopist. In 2006, she started International Microbial Associates, which provides companies assistance with new product development, problem solving, audits, and bid reviews, as well as training on biocides and microbial contamination. A member of TAPPI for more than 20 years, she has served as the Microbiology & Microbial Technology Committee chairperson and has presented papers at TAPPI, PIMA, APPITA, and ECOPAPERTECH in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
This webinar is offered at no charge. Additional details and registration can be found on the course website.
The Microbiology & Microbial Technology Committee is very active and has produced a series of successful webinars on this and other important topics. It will also feature presentations at TAPPI’s Papercon Conference being held in Nashville, Tenn., USA, on April 27-30, 2014.
