N.C. State’s Pulp and Paper Foundation, Program Mourn Loss of Professor Hitchings

Robert G. Hitchings passed away May 5, 2014 at the age of 91 in Manassas, Va., USA. He was a professor of pulp and paper technology at N.C. State University in Raleigh, N.C., for 33 years, retiring in 1987, and a long-time member of TAPPI.
 
Professor Hitchings was a dedicated classroom teacher, impacting the lives of more than 620 students in the undergraduate program. He was named several times as an Alumni Distinguished Professor; he was also a member of the NCSU Academy of Outstanding Teachers and was appointed the Rueben B. Robinson Professor of Pulp and Paper Science and Technology.
 
He is survived by his son James Robert Hitchings and his wife Ann, his daughter Carol Hitchings Terwilliger and her husband George, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
 
A memorial service was held this past Monday, May 12, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Alexandria, Va.  Gifts may be made to the Robert G. Hitchings Endowed Scholarship either online go.ncsu.edu/cnrgift or by check payable to N.C. State Natural Resources Foundation with Robert G.
