The Prince Albert pulp mill in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada, will shut down indefinitely, according to a CBC News report this week. The mill is operated by Canada-based Paper Excellence, which bought the facility two years ago with a plan to produce dissolving pulp, but then announced plans to produce a different type of pulp, due to difficult market conditions.
When Paper Excellence bought the mill in 2012, it planned to convert its production to 1,000 metric tpd of dissolving pulp, with a projected staff of approximately 250 employees in a unionized operation. About 60 employees are affected by the shutdown announced this week.
