This week, multiple U.S. newspapers published editions on pink newsprint to show support for breast cancer awareness, which will last throughout the month of October. Some newspapers are picking up on the trend this year and are printing for the first time on the specially colored newsprint.
"This is a first for us. We've never published a newspaper on pink newsprint before, or turned our website –GoErie.com–pink," said the homepage for the Erie-Times News, Erie, Pa., USA.
For other newspapers, "going pink" has already become an annual tradition.
"Today marks the fifth consecutive year the Kentucky New Era has printed a paper on pink newsprint to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month" stated the newspaper’s website on its homepage.
Although "yellow pages" are progressively uploading their signature colored listings to the internet and entering more into an exclusively digital / paperless age, colored newsprint should continue to serve a purpose in this noble, now annual campaign that has been expanding each year in popularity for publishers of today’s newspapers.
