Registration is open through tomorrow, December 5, for an open forum December 10 in Chicago, Ill., USA, on manufacturing technology breakthroughs for the forest products industry.
"Technologies for Advanced Manufacturing of Pulp and Paper Products" is a project intended to identify breakthrough technologies to enhance the industry’s sustainability and competitiveness, and to develop advanced materials from forest biomass. It is supported by a federal grant from the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology program. Two broad categories of technological need and opportunity—sustainable manufacturing and advanced biobased materials— provide an overarching focus for the project.
This second of two sessions being held in Chicago will solicit inputs from all stakeholders, followed in 2015 by collaborative preparation of six detailed roadmaps that define paths for research and implementation. A similar session in Atlanta November 18 was attended by about 40 industry, government, and research experts.
The December 10 workshop will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Suites, 8101 Higgins Rd., Chicago, Ill. 60631. Registration is available online. Comments may also be submitted online.
The AMTech workshop follows the Agenda 2020 quarterly members’ meeting December 9 at the same hotel. Six workgroups will present their reports identifying the most promising opportunities to achieve breakthroughs in reduction of energy and fresh water per ton of product as well as new product opportunities from renewable forest biomass. Those interested in attending the members’ meeting as guests should request an invitation as soon as possible.
