Fifty volunteers from the Domtar Corp. mill in Greenville, N.C., USA, and the local Student Conservation Assn. (SCA) gave a springtime makeover to Greenville's River Park North this past Saturday, May 16. Domtar's Greenville employees and their families joined local SCA members to plant native shrubs, remove invasive plants, and haul away debris. The volunteers' efforts help restore the 324-acre nature preserve and improve the health of the Tar River.

The River Park North project is the latest in a series of community collaborations between Domtar and SCA; previous efforts have improved municipal, state, and provincial parks in Kingsport, Tenn., Lancaster, S.C., Nekoosa, Wis., and Montreal and Windsor, Que., Canada, among other locations. Domtar also supports SCA's engagement of thousands of local youth in conservation projects in more than 20 major U.S. and Canadian cities.

"Domtar is committed to supporting Greenville and other communities in which we operate because we don't just work here, we live here," said Domtar's President and CEO John D. Williams. "We're also pleased to support SCA and its mission of building the next generation of conservation leaders."

SCA Events Manager Lori Robertson noted that "hands-on conservation fosters lifelong links to nature and allows our young people to gain important job skills and experience. SCA is thrilled to once again work with Domtar employees and their families and give back to the local community."

Domtar, based in Montreal, Que., Canada, is the largest integrated marketer and manufacturer of uncoated freesheet paper in North America. In 2014, the company had sales of $5 .6 billion from some 50 countries. It employs approximately 9,800 people.

The SCA, headquartered in Washington, D.C., USA, is America's oldest and largest youth conservation organization. Founded in 1957, its mission is to build the next generation of conservation leaders. Seven in 10 of SCA's 75,000 alumni worldwide are employed or studying in conservation-related fields. The organization also has regional offices in Charlestown, N.H., Chicago, Ill., Houston, Texas, Oakland, Calif., and Seattle, Wash.
