Shorr Packaging marked the beginning of construction for its new corporate headquarters and warehouse on June 26 in Aurora, Ill., USA. Notable dignitaries and representatives from within the community attended and gave their support at the groundbreaking ceremony.
"I congratulate Shorr Packaging on its growing business, and thank the company for its commitment to creating and sustaining jobs in our community," said Congressman Bill Foster. "As a businessman myself, I know how much hard work and dedication it takes to build and grow a business, and I'm proud to see Shorr doing that here in Aurora."
The expansion will bring continuous hiring, adding over 100 additional jobs within the next seven years. With Shorr's established, 100% employee-owned enterprise, each new job adds substantial value to the company's Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
"Shorr has a long history of great service to our community and our nation. The company's recognition as the 2015 ESOP Company of the Year by the Illinois Chapter of the ESOP Association; its expansion and the new jobs the expansion will create are accomplishments worth celebrating," noted Congressman Randy Hultgren. "I'm excited about Shorr's future and thrilled to help celebrate this great news for our community."
Without applying for or accepting any tax incentives, Shorr Packaging chose a location on Ferry Road between Route 59 and Eola Road, in Aurora, DuPage County. After comprehensive studies, Shorr determined a consolidation of its three Aurora/Naperville facilities was an important project for the company’s success in the years to come.
"My voice joins with many others in praise of the leadership team at Shorr, who looked so wisely to the future as they studied their options for locating their headquarters and consolidating three facilities," said Tonia Khouri, DuPage County board member, District 5, and chairwoman of Economic Development. The leaders at Shorr wanted to make sure local students, teachers, and schools had the benefit of their tax dollars to create a workforce equipped to handle the challenges of tomorrow's business climate."
Founded in 1922, Shorr has a long, deep-rooted history in Aurora Co. and says that it is proud to stay in such a positive business climate. As David Shorr, CEO of Shorr Packaging, mentioned at the groundbreaking ceremony, "It was almost 25 years ago to the day that we had our groundbreaking ceremony for our existing facility on Commerce Street in Aurora. We were very proud that day, just as we are today."
Development on the facility officially commenced with Duke Realty and JLL. It is expected to be completed in the spring of 2016.
