DS Smith, London, U.K., announced after groundbreaking this past week that the company's new facility would be able to set a completely new standard for what customers can expect from both the display and the consumer packaging category, while providing significant growth opportunities for the company.
"As Display and Packaging strategists we want to delight our customers with creative displays, innovative consumer goods packaging and strategic supply cycle solutions. With our new site we are outstandingly prepared to meet the challenges of our customers and establish a basis for further growth. I’m very glad that we are starting the construction of this exciting development today," said DS Smith’s Regional Managing Director Per Vinge Frederiksen after the event.
DS Smith is investing EUR 50 million in the new plan, including purchasing the latest machine technology available. About 45,000 sq. miles of the 88,000 sq. mile area will be developed during this phase, with production and logistic facilities as well as offices, conference rooms, and social rooms for the employees being built.
The picture above depicts what the facility will look like when finished. The opening of the new Display and Consumer Packaging site is planned for the fall of 2016.
A total of 250 employees from the existing plant in Hanau, located about 10km away, will move to the new site, where the largest part of the display activities will be gathered. The number of employees will increase substantially as the company fulfills its ambition of eventually doubling the current size of the facility.
